Read Philippians 4:10-14
How much money do you need…. to be happy, satisfied, and secured? As I shared on Sunday, the line that I thought years ago would be high enough to meet all of my family’s needs has moved because of more kids… inflation… and other things I could not have even thought of.
It is a daily struggle to live a contented life. Paul shared that he had learned to be content in every situation… whether in plenty or in need. As you think back to Paul’s life, not only was he the leader of the Jews in trying to get rid of the Christians, but as a Christian missionary, he did not want to be a burden to the people he was trying to lead to Christ. He was free… and he was a prisoner. He preached to the leaders of his time… and to the poorest of his time. Paul learned the secret to being content… it was through Christ! In 4:13, he penned the famous words… I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Here is the context for that verse. Not that you or I can do ANYTHING… without Christ’s help. It is the ability to be and stay content in every situation- that’s what Christ can help you and me experience.
As you take inventory of your life-hopefully you can echo Paul’s words… I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content…
