Read I Peter 2:1-10

I remember when I was 13-15 years old and wanted to go somewhere where I couldn’t walk or ride my bike.  I had to get someone to drive me.  I had not got my driver’s license yet and so I was at the liberty of someone… usually my mom… to drive me where I wanted to go.  I am currently experiencing this with my oldest daughter… who has a learner’s permit… but still needs me to drive her everywhere she wants to be.

One of the principles I shared Sunday relates to the above story.  While there are laws regarding who can and cannot drive… when it comes to approaching God, the new law is that we all can!  In the OT, the people were required to go to the Temple or Tabernacle and offer their sacrifices through the priest.  Now, because of what Jesus has done for us, we can approach God ourselves.  We no longer need to go to a priest or pastor… we have direct access to God.

In today’s passage, Peter reminds us that we are all “a royal priesthood”.  That means that you can talk to God directly.  There is no go-between here on earth that you need to go to in order to pray.  However, it is great to know that we do have an intercessor, Jesus, who is praying for us right now (Romans 8:34 and Hebrews 7:25).

Are you taking advantage of this life-giving opportunity?  Go before God today and praise Him for who He is and thank Him for all He’s done.
